Like i said..i know it's a silly one..but i'm still going to ask it..
944 on ramps..out of gear..starter removed..flywheel lock installed..stripped down all the way to water pump..

?Safe to release handbrake and push the car off from ramps? Should be..by all the logical thoughts i've gone through?

I dont see why not in fairness if she is out of gear......[&:]

What are you fixing at...?

How are you going to get it back on the ramps to take off the flywheel lock and re-fit the starter motor?

I'm not gonna put it back on ramps - got a trolley jack and axle stands..they'll do the job when the time is right..[:)]

Axl,
Is the front of the car going to clear the ramps if you push it down them? How did you get it onto the ramps? I'd be interested to know about the second question as I can't use ramps on my 944, no clearance.

Cheers,

What am i fixing at..? Erm..it might be to early in the morning for me but..what do you mean by that?[&o]

Sorry lad its the language barrier......[:D]

What part of the car are you going to work at is what I asked....?

I always have to use my scissor jack for the car to give me the clearance to put a trolley jack under the car to raise it. [;)]

I was quite an experiment..first drove front wheels on 2 wooden blocks(~4 inches high) then put ramps in front of the blocks and then some smaller blocks(~1.5 inch) on beginning of ramps to make it go on smoothly..and up i were(really slowly though)..

I was going to replace the water pump gasket originally..the bad news is that some w***er has already done it previously and f****d threads in 2 bolt holes..so it's not as straight forward as i planned..might as well do the seals and o-rings while i'm there..got my fancy toolkit now for belts and everything..[8D]

if you have got to heli-coil two stud holes you might as well remove all the studs and replace them with new. They are bound to be stretched and corroded and you would be very lucky if you didn't lose one or two more of the old studs when re-torquing.

rotten job this time of the year. Best of luck[;)]

Got loads of bolts, nuts and washers..so that's already done..[8D]

A delicate operation getting it onto the ramps. Are you confident that you can remove the car off the ramps using the same method. I would be thinking about using some scaffolding planks supported at various points. This would mean that the angle of the actual ramps wouldn't be a factor.
See attached drawing which explains what I mean.
Blue = Ramps
Red = Plank
Green = Supports

I made up a pair of ramp extensions which hook over the second 'rung' of the ramps made from steel checker plate, work brilliantly and will last forever but then it's easy for me as I work in a steel works maintenance dept and the materials are cheap[;)] and plentiful.
