I need boost....

New member
Right the time has come to take the big step and buy myself a turbo. After 18 months of Lux ownership I need boost!!!!

I have been to look at a few but most were rot boxes, but I am going tomorrow to look at this one, it looks good in the photos and from what the owner has said it also sounds good. I just wanted to know if there is any record of it being on here at any time.

Thanks.

Hi Tom,

Reg doesn't show up as a Club member over the last 2 years. Assuming the usual potential problems that you know from all the time on this forum are all ok, it looks pretty good!

Come on in, the water's lovely....

What do you mean, mind the iceberg........?![:D]

Just kidding[:)]

Repeat after me, "I will not start modifying it, I will not start modifying it......."[8|][:D]

Feel the booooosssst!

Oli will be along soon to pour scorn on us S2 wannabes....[:D]

Last month I changed my wastegate springs from 7psi of resistance to 17. Today I received a manual boost controller in the post. Is that a slippery slope I see before me?

Ooooh yes - theres no going back now ! [:D]

That advertised turbo looks promising, though I would be sceptical about a boost enhancer plus exhaust (and what looks like an ESS cone filter) leading to the 30 bhp gain. That said the enhancer will improve its driveability as well as adding a few horses.

Never mind about 'before you', it looks like you are already half way down it [:D]

Homesea, that could be a nice one but as you know it's when you see it in the flesh that you'll know for sure. It is on the cheaper end of the spectrum so you could have some budget left to work with maybe. At the other end of the scale RPM have two excellent Turbos that have both been extensively rebuilt mechanically and bodywork wise and will need nothing more doing apart from driving:

I thought I'd just pop in and see what you chaps were up to ... you know, grab a pint of best bitter and chew the ...

... oh, well, if you're going to be like that about it I'll just get my coat.

(A turbo is a bit like a vacuum cleaner, isn't it ... but running backwards. Maybe we should call them nosyd's or something. Or revooh's. What? No, it's OK, I know where the exit is, thanks ... )

Oli.

Oli is like I was, he just hasnt realised yet he is missing the hair dryer, lol.

Thanks for checking Paul, it was a long shot.

I have seen both the 944's on RPM site, very nice and black. But not sure I can justify 10k on a 944!!

I guess the way to look at it is that you might well pay as much to buy one and get it up to a good standard. I know both the cars (RPM look after mine) and Darren's spent more on each than he's asking!

I shall not lower myself to respond to this comment, apart from to call you a cad and bounder of the first order and to blow a raspberry in your general direction.

Be interested to know your take on it when you've viewed it. It is cheap and certainly looks the part from the photos but I found that with many and arrived only to be disappointed.

Tom, I have spent over £2k getting my car to the standard I want it and that was one that Hartech inspected for me when I first got it and they pronounced it a 'good car', so even supposedly good cars will undoubtedly required some 'birthday' expenditure to get them properly fettled.

I think the one thing we all agree on is that there no such thing as a cheap Porsche...[8|]

Worth every penny mind[:D]

Those £10k cars are no doubt well fettled but at least with a cheaper car you can find the money you need to sort it gradually (assuming its not a total wreck) rather than stump up the wonga all at once.

My new one was a good 'un when I bought it but have still had to shell out money to sort a few things out and theres two or three others still on the list to do.

If you are anything like me, then I suspect that there'll always be two or three things on a list to do - each time I seem to find something else that I can persuade myself I need to improve....[8|]

Well the car was good, drove spot on and just as the guy had said. Would make someone a very nice turbo, but not me. I cant stand the colour, or the wheels or the big backbox. I just carry on looking. If anyone likes that odd silver it worth a look.

Hmmmm, good one's are becoming hard to find just now so don't make up your mind too quickly. If you hate the colour then fair enough it's not easily changed but it is quite unusual. The wheels and exhaust can easily be changed to standard and you would probably make money on the deal

I agree with Paul - the back box can easily be toned down and you will be able to sell the wheels and get something more to your taste.

There are lots of sheds out there ( I saw loads...[8|]) so a sound car that needs some cosmetics might not be a bad way to go.

The colour actually looks more like Linen Grey metallic, but that must just be the pics.

Good luck with your hunt!
