I-pod link - 997 Generation 1

Have a 2008 911 Turbo. When I purchased the car I had asked for an I-pod link. When collected the car, the link fitted was a non Porsche item. During the 1st service this summer I asked them to change it for the genuine Porsche item fitted in the glove box (in between the 2 seats).

I now regret my decision as the quality of sound is not as good as the non approved (it seems to works on the FM band and not on the CD exit) and it does not charge my i-pod. Was told by the OPC that if the i-pod model is too recent then it might not get charged... Is it true? the whole idea of an i-pod is to have the music on long journey...

I am now thinking of removing this link and replacong it with an aftermarket item, any recommendation?

All advise welcomed...

I am pretty sure it's not FM based...

It certainly is, I had one! :)

You access it by tuning to a radio station that broadcasts as "AUX". When driving through London you get interference from other stations around.

It's absolute rubbish.

Hmm, then my OPC lied to me! Glad I didn't pay that kind of cash for something that costs 30 quid elsewhere.

My wifes' Range Rover which is a 2006 model has a more advance interface... Think we are being taken for a ride by Porsche, they charge an exhorbitant amount for a piece of rubbish. It does broadcast on the FM band or at least I had to tune it on the FM band to listen to the music, does not desplay any song titles or any other info for a very poor quality of sound.
Has anyone fitted any aftermarket item recently which offers a better solution?

Thanks Alex for the old link, should have checked it before having the OPC changing the unit I had. Has anyone had the Dension Gateway 500 fitted and what do they think of it. Does it really control the I pod from the PCM?
