[:(]I require some assistance........driving home wednesday night all seemed normal.until my 85 lux jerked a couple of times (best i can describe) almost as if taking her last couple of breaths and then stopped engine cut out and i was unable to start her again..[:(]...called the missus plonked on jump leads ...she started then died immediately, would not even turn over after that, Now up until then she was a daily driver starts first time every time. The previous 2 days i had been doing a 60 mile round trip doing a constant 80-100 for 30 mins or so each way along the M20 (so glad it didn't happen then[]) after my final return journey there did seem to be a rattley type noise coming from the rear/gearbox.......now cutting it short ....I am able to roll the car in neutral first or second but it wont move in fourth or reverse the starter now wont turn and i no the alternator was on it's way out as the battery has been dying on me recently. what i want to know is has the gearbox siezed? or is it the engine? i think the starter has now given up the ghost because it woudn't turn the engine when breakdown assistance came or am I of track. Can anybody advise what could be the problem? and how much to fix....the missus wants rid of the car and it just seems to eat lots of money[:(]
eitherway the car originally cost me a little over £1200 in march 06 400+ for it's first service another 400 for master and slave clutch fittings 100+ sports exaust 100+ new steering wheel and boss...it's only been 6 months[]

Does it turn over with the clutch depressed? If it was the gearbox seized, then pressing the clutch should make a difference.

This happend to me []

Starter would not turn the car over, then if you attempted to 'bump' start the rears locked up....
In the end it was the engine siezed.

I hope this is not the case for you ! Some quick checks will reveal the answer I'm sure....

Good luck !

If the head gasket has gone & your cylinders are full of water this could stop it turning over, try taking the plugs out to release the trapped coolant.

put the car in neutral, and turn the engine over using a socket (24mm) on the crankshaft bolt head inside the front crankshaft pulley.

If its seized up, you will not be able to move it at all.

If its a broken cam belt, you will probably be able to turn it 270 degrees or so in either direction before it locks up. If so, take off the front belt cover and watch the belts as you turn the engine and look for a broken belt or a belt that does not turn....

If the belts seem fine, try to turn the engine with the plugs out...

It may be worth taking the inspection hatch off of the gearbox bell housing and undoing the coupling which hooks up the gearbox to the torque tube and then sliding it onto the gearbox splines so its off the torque tube and seeing if it will turn over with a socket or starter motor

Engine seized as confirmed by Bob at RGA, [][][]

Dont suppose anyone has a spare engine? or wants to by an early 85 lux who was a daily driver upuntil 2 weeks ago??[]

Sorry to hear that [:(] what oil were you using?
Engines should be available from many sources, porsche-a-part etc.
