Hi all.
Let her indoors use the my pride and joy on an errand today[&:], safely returned and after watching her back the turbo into the garage I noticed there was a rattling noise from the rear end. After a quick examination it appears the noise only occurs when in neutral.
I have read on another thread from last year that this rattle may elude to the idle bearings.
The turbo has done nearly 148K and has had a recent 12k service and a good inspection by the Northway guys as requested. Nothing was noticed then, so it seems a recent development.
Is this rattle something to live with or is an early indication of something bad about to happen?

Any experiences of rattles would be appreciated.

My 944S has done this for the last 2 years. I'ts got really loud now (like a rally car with a straight cut 'box), but still works with no problem.

I did buy a spare box just in case. Hopefully fit new box / quickshift / water pump / belts / timing chain etc before Jamsport !

Thanks Rick.
Time to start saving some pennies I think.
I look foward to seeing your Turbot in the flesh along with the others at Jamsport.

It does sound like the idler gear, and if it is then it's nothing to worry about, though I agree its scarey when you first notice it. A change of gearbox oil 'may' quieten it a little, give Ray Northway a call see what he says?

Thanks Paul - will do, the turbo is due back at Northway for the cambelt to be retensioned, brake calipers to be done as they make a horrendous squeel and thermometer sender replaced and maybe a new wastegate. Glad to hear that this noise is nothing too serious.

In the meantime I shall still wind the wife up that she has busted it. [:D][:D]
