I THOUGHT I SHOULD LET YOU KNOW [:D]

The article says a pneumatic drill from ONE metre is 90dB - that one very quiet drill then!
Sound Levels in Decibels 120 Discotheque - 1 metre in front of a loud speaker
100 Pneumatic drill at 5 metres
90 Heavy goods vehicle from pavement; powered lawnmower at operator's ear
70 Vacuum Cleaner at 3 metres; Telephone ringing at 2 metres
50 Boiling kettle at half a metre
40 Refrigerator humming at 2 metres
I can think of better reasons to not drive a convertible...........:ROFLMAO: (only kidding guys and gals)

Steady!! Your on dodgy ground here !! [:D] [:D] [:D]
The "other" car is a convertible - well it doesn't really have a roof as such[&:] - and is pretty noisy too. Now the combined wind/engine/exhaust dB levels on that at 120mph+ are a health hazard. In a Boxster with the top down though? I know my hearing is hardly pristine after 30+ years of headphones and general aviation racket but I've driven a Boxster, top down, at plenty mph and didn't seem very loud to me![;)]

The article has serious inplications for UK Spyder drivers.

With the top in place at 80mph it feels like someone os hitting your right ear with a hammer - I kid you not.

Blimey, I can stay in and get that......[&:]

42.8 mpg Peter? Must try harder to get that figure down![;)]

....And we're commenting on the views of a load of Tory-worshipping biscuit racers here, yeah....?!

The Mail; what a f**king joke!

The 42.8 mpg is just a headline figure and you very rarely achieve it.

Although nursing the car to the next petrol station or in steady state UK 60mph nose to tail motorway traffic it can happen.

Reckon on an average trip I'm getting around 30 mpg - compared with 21 mpg which I used to get in the 997.

Gives quite a handy extension of range when touring long distances.

It's no surprise to me. Most bikers wear earplugs under their helmets (oh matron) and having ridden a motorbike for a few years I've always worn them both on the bike and with the roof down in the Boxster. I've had bad tinnitus in the past after long fast blasts in the car without plugs so now always carry a bag of them in the car for me and passengers.

If you use them, you should apparently use a new pair each trip to avoid ear infections. I source mine from Screwfix: http://tinyurl.com/4po7bts

You guys will have to speak up I can't hear what you are saying [:D]
To be honest I never gave it a thought .I have started to wear sun glasses even when it is not to bright as I have found that after hours with the hood down my eyes get watery .I will have to give the ear plugs a try especially when I take my Chesil Speedster 356 out, now that is noisy compared to the Boxster
