I wanna boxster for xmas

Good Afternoon,

Am currently thinking about getting a new motor and would really love a porsche boxster, was thinking about chopping in my Bmw 3 series coupe for something better this xmas time.

I'm just putting in some ground work and and would like to know;
What i could get for 18-20k
Average servicing costs?
Insurance for 23 year olds?!

Any advise and help would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards

Daniel

I think for 18 to 20K you will get a good 1997 to 99 Boxster with full Porsche History and reasonable milage. For absolute full spec. very low milage and from a trader you will pay 2 to 3k more but I would say that is money well spent. But as with any car, colour & spec. play's a very big part in the value.

As for servicing costs, I paid £700 for a 48k (big major service) at an OPC but have been quoted £220 for this years service, I do 4K a year.

Insurance, I have just renewed the cover on my Boxster for £481.78 with More Than insurance I am 31 no points or crashes 13 years no claims living in a rural location.

Hope this helps.

Hello, there i've just been through the whole buying process loop and have learnt a huge amount in the last 8 weeks... I ended up opting to dig a little deeper in my pockets as I decided I really wanted a 2.7

£20k is a tough one, if you want a really good 2.5 (your budget will put you in 2.5 territory) you might need to dig in a little deeper say about £1k to £2k more and you should get one with reasonable mileage as at the £20k mark you're looking at 50000+ miles from what i have seen in the past weeks.

As an example I did see a nice 2.5 in my travels and it looks like it's still for sale

Roly is a top bloke, and was prepared to negotiate on price (read into that what you will). I probably would look at the car a little more closely now as I have learnt a few for things in the past few weeks. I can tell you that I looked the car over fairly carefully and didn't find too much wrong besides the drivers seat electric adjustment not working which he said would be fixed, the paintwork was very nice and the hard and soft top in good order. Also drove it for about 20mins and didn't find anything untoward.

I should point out that i'm getting nothing for this btw I just know how hard it can be to look for a clean car when you have a budget!!! I would still get it checked over by someone who know's what they are doing though.... If you want, I drew up a check list of questions you should be asking when you're buying before you decide whether or not to view a car, which I can send you. Personally I would try and contact the previous owner if the dealer agrees (if he isn't even prepared to consider this then i would have alarm bells ringing!)

Also try looking at boxa.net on a regular basis and autotrader, but I have tried now to stick to this forum and boxa.net to find a car as I just get a better feeling about buying a car from someone who might have cared.

Also happy to talk you through my experiences on the phone.

Gary

Thank you for your replies, really appreciate the help and advise [:)], i've got 6 months to save a bit more money and try for the 2.7.
Once again thank you
Daniel

At 23 could be the big problem is going to be insurance. Best check that out first. Try elephant and Churchill.

Get yourself a list of things you MUST have and those that are nice to have but can live without. Do check out the OPCs particularly at the tail end of the year, keep an eye on the used cars on the actual Porcshe web site. The warranty is good, well as good as you can get, and you know the car is a good one.

I prefer to buy privately, quite like the experience and you do get to know about the car. BUT you do need to know what you are doing. Some OPCs set out what needs to be done on the car quite clearly on the service invoices, others do not. It may be worth wandering into a specialist such as Jaz or JZMachtech and simply talking to them.

As has been said, colour is a big deal and does affect the resale. Here again the pricing on the P used car site gives you an idea.

My guide, and I can pretty much confirm this, is to expect to pay £1kpa in addition to services and this will cover you for tyres and the 'unknown'! Best buy a car with a recent service, they can go a long time between however. It isn't the service cost, you can haggle about that, it is the hourly rate if they find something.
