Alasdair

Most of those have ended up somewhat spuriously donating their identities to various Cobra replicas, on the grounds that they come up on the register as being AC manufactured.

Jack up data plate, replace car, jack down data plate, etc.

ORIGINAL: Lowtimer
Jack up data plate, replace car, jack down data plate, etc.
Good phrase - mind if I borrow it?

Oli.

P.S. Those invacar things are lethally unstable, even when standing still. I personally wouldn't fit a lawnmower engine to one, thinking it much safer if it goes nowhere ...

Sir is welcome.
It's a phrase we use in the vintage aeroplane world, with special reference to things like "restored" Spitfires an similar WW2 types that have been brought back from two square inches of dented Duraluminum found under a snowdrift in Murmansk, and so on.

Hmmm... Not sure why would you want to ruin a masterpiece of British engineering & pragmatism with dubious foreign objects, moreover coming from Fritzland...

To clarify, this would be the case where the few square inches of crushed metal in Murmansk are all that remains of the Spitfire in question.

During its 'rebuild' everything except the data plate will be replaced with new metal anyway.
