ICE Amplifier Location

My 993 has an audio amplifier fitted in the luggage compartment. It's mounted to the front longitudinal member on the opposite side to the recommended location for a CD autochanger. It's an awkward location as it encroaches n the already limited luggage space (it's a Carrera 4) and you have to remove it in order to remove the spare wheel or change a headlamp bulb. It's not something I would have spent my money on but since it came with the car I think I'll keep it, I would just like to relocate to ewhere more convenient.

I have heard of people mounting amplifiers under the passenger seat. Can anybody advise me on the pros and cons of this location and any details of the installation, wire routing etc. Also, are there any other recommeded locations that peole have tried?

Cheers

passenger seat is where all the space is.......

have yet to complete my audio upgrades so can't comment yet... but as long as you get all the wires under the carpet, it should be ok (?)

Cheers Sundeep,

I had a look under the seats. There is definitely some space under the passenger seat. The driver seat has the DME relay and some other gubbins under it. Also, from scanning through the Rennlist forum it appears that the factory amplfier was also fitted under the seat.

BTW. I've just changed my headlamp lenses as per your recommendation. A worthwhile improvement.

PP, My amp is under the passenger seat. Hiding wires is not the issue as they will all fit neatly under the carpets - the problem can be getting all the carpets back under the seat if the amp is too tall.

So long as the amp is small enough, all the carpets will fit back neatly. One thing to note is if the amp has a cooling fan, make sure the carpets don't cover it!
