Just returned from a fabulous few days in Finland. Porsche seem to be able to up the game every year. After getting through what we would call a blizzard at Helsinki airport which delayed our arrival I awoke the following morning to this view:

The thermometer in the room showed minus 27 outside and plus 23 inside so a 50 degree change in temperature when you step outside.

There were some great cars including the 991 C2S which I will do a separate post on but great car and 997 Turbos as well as the normal C4s and Boxster Spyders. This year they also had the real deal:

Once again the highlight for me was the night time rally stages simply awesome:

You can get some idea what it like to drive on the lake at night in this video:

This video shows the the same section but in the daylight:

So Bob did you book direct with the Germans or pay the hugely inflated UK Travel Club price?

Looks like you had a great time. Very jealous.[] Will need to add it to my wish list - looks like fun.
Great pics to. [:)]

Nick,

Next year you will be able to book Ice Force S. Timed sections, more cars with competition spikes, GT 3 and RS etc etc

Direct with the Germans

Likewise always [:)]

I think I've missed the point here, both Porsche DE and GB websites quote the same price for the base level trip €3,790.

Where am I going wrong?

D

Ice Force is 5,590 EUR which is roughly 4,674 GBP if you book direct with Germany.

However, if you book with the UK Travel Club it is 5,890 pounds. I think that price includes flight but there is no flexibility in departures. Typically when we have done ice training we have arranged our own travel and either arrived early or departed later. There are also more dates available if you book direct and prepared to go in a mixed nationality group, which from our point of view is much more fun than hanging out with a group of all Brits [:)]

You can see some excellent drifting in this clip. Of course drifting in the big circle is easier than when you are doing over 100KMph up to a tight corner with the car bouncing all over the place but still some good driving from my co driver:

The car is a C4S and with a 4 wheel drive you can hold some amazing drift angles once you get the hang of it. With 2 wheel drive you need to use the throttle more so more difficult to hold long drifts

Is that 'Toby' on the radio ?

No our instructors this year were Jan Kalmar who was third in the Nurburgring 24Hr and Nick Edwards of rallying fame. Both pretty impressive drivers

Maybe all Porsche AG instructors sound the same on the radio [:D]
