Ideal tyre sizes

Sorry fellas but another tyre size question.

I've just bought some original CUP 1 rims and want to know the ideal tyre widths to go for.

Fronts: 7J
Rears: 8J

I'm thinking 215/50/17 at the front & 235/45/17 at the rear.

Is this about right?

I do have some brand new 225/50/17 tyres in the garage and was wonderinging if I could/should use them on at the rear?

I will be tracking the car quite frequently too.

Any advice gratefully received.

Are you asking the official sizes or if people fit wider on the standard rims?

Official sizes on these rims should be 205/50 front and 255/40 rear I believe.

Ian.

205mm for the 7J fronts seems about right but 255 seems a bit wide for 8J rear rims.
Would 225 be a better fit on 8J rims?

I have a pair of 225/50/17 tyres and a further x2 255/45/17 which I'd love to use but I just feel they'd both be too wide.

help....

255/40 seem to be fitted to both 8J and 9J rims. I don't have the Adrian Streather wheel/tire table to hand but I am sure 255/40 is the correct recommended size for 8J Cup 1s.

Perhaps someone else can chime in.

Hi,

I found quite a useful website to help me:

http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html

I'm not sure it'll be set up for 911's which are a bit diffrent, but it seems to suggest that the tyres I have are a bit too wide.
Looks like 215mm and 235mm are the optimum widths for 7J & 8J rims.

If anybody thinks this is wrong please let me know. I am completely open to advice.
I just want the best balance and grip from my tyres on track (& a bit of road)

cheers

Kristian
