In the picture there is a pink and black wire which do not appear to be connected. Has any one an idear of what they are for. The iterior light and glove box light only show as 6. 5V when you put a meter across them any idears of what the problem might be?

Hi porchewillow, do you think the pink and black wires are related to the low voltage you are getting on the interior and glovebox bulbs or are they separate issues?

All I can think of regarding the bulbs is that there may be an earthing problem. You could try your voltmeter across each bulb and a point which is earthed and see what voltage you get. Have you tried measuring the voltage across each bulb individually?

Mal,

It would be worthwhile to trace those wires and see if they go into the harness - or somewhere else. You can safely bet that the black wire is probably an earth, but the pink is anybody's guess. As with many cars of this sort of age, there is no telling what the car has been through in it's 14+ year history. All sorts of electrical magicians will have had a go at fitting all sorts of stuff - and probably left half of the previous stuff behind. I had an auto electrician take out nearly 3 kilos of spare wiring from my car soon after I got it. All sorts of things weren't working correctly, including the glove box and interior lights, cigarette lighter, boot lights etc. etc. It cost me over £300 to get it all sorted!!

Good luck in tracing it.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the response, i dont think that the pink and black wires are related to the low voltage internal lighting problem, but it could be, as i have only purchased the car 2 weeks ago. I will try and put a voltmeter across each bulb and an earth point to see what voltage i get.

When i put a voltmeter across the bulbs i get 6.5.

The CD porche manual i have, does not show any pink wiring so i can only presume it might be some thing to do with the Cobra 6009 alarm.

Thanks

Mal

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply, i have taken out most of the interior to see what is happening. As you say there was quite a few spare wires left from previous stereo installs. Do most auto electrians do alarms as i think this might be where the problem is.

Mal,

I'm sure many auto electricians "do" alarms, but I believe there is some special requirement for them to install Thatcham approved alarms. The guy who did my fault finding was actually a phone engineer but he had an alarm specialist who worked with him. It took the both of them the best part of a whole day to sort out my birds nest!!! Alarms can often be disconnected and the wiring left in place because it's too much graft to figure out what goes where and it's just easier to leave it. Doesn't help the poor owner though!!

Hope you get it sorted.

Best regards

Dave
