Idependent or OPC service

Hi All

Apologies if question is on another thread (probably is)

My 981 Cayman S PDK is due its 4 year service in a few weeks time - car has done just over 15k.

Take it to an OPC and pay more - or go to a reputable Porsche specialist???

Views please...

Thanks

I've got nothing against the indies, but at that age I'd stick with the dealers for your service. You'll get a Porsche loaner and you can try out the launch control without caning your own tyres. [:D]

Entirely your choice Adrian, especially since your car is out of factory warranty; and even if you have the Porsche Extended Warranty (although probably you'll need documentary evidence to claim for any warranty work if the car's been maintained out of the PC network). I think it very much depends upon whether or not you think the official stamp in your service book will be advantageous when you come to sell the car.

I don't know where you're located but there are plenty of reputable Porsche Independents scattered around the UK who will be able to service your car to the required standard.

Jeff - the car does have extended warranty as purchased from a Porsche Centre.

As with most prestige cars the stamp in the book is more important than how much it costs. My thinking was when the car gets a few years older and the value of the vehicle is falling away, then take it to an independent?

I live in the Home Counties - so Hatfield Porsche is the closest centre to me...they have quoted approx £1100...

They must be funding their Christmas party although you don't say what it covers.

I paid £250 for my 4 year although I excluded oil and air filters from the standard list because I have these and brake fluid changed more frequently than Porsche's bi-annual schedule.

Fillet steak all round I reckon...

99157237100 AIR INTAKE PRE-FILTER

9A110722400 ENGINE OIL FILTER ELEMENT

90012310630 SUMP PLUG WASHER

All this is on the quote, plus the general maintenance stuff.....oh, and you get a Macan for the day.....

Adrian,

Just FYI, recently I had an 8-year service and MOT carried out by Hatfield on my 987.2 Cayman S and was charged £925 incl VAT. That included a PCGB parts discount/reduced labour charge for an older vehicle, and I declined the replacement tyre gunk at £60+. Maybe that’s what you’re listing as top-up/bag?

You should get 10% discount on parts for Club membership, although that won’t be worth much.

Those in the know wouldn’t be put off by a non-PC service stamp but maybe the average punter would be. As I said, your choice.

BTW. Although they promised me a Porsche courtesy car nothing was available on the day, so I ended up with a 3-series diesel Beemer - hideous..!

That will be biennial then.......[:D]

Mine was getting on for £1100 at Hatfield back in March. That included plugs, tyre stuff, brake fluid, and 10% off. Not sure what you can get for £250. I also have my oil done annually (at an indy). Still under warranty.

I'm always keen to use my OPC but wouldn't pay £1100 for a service. I forget what I paid for my last 987 Boxster but I think it was around £500 plus the spark plugs.

Can you get quotes from other OPC's ?
