Idiot Question - ISV

Idiot question - that is a good question (perhaps) - by an idiot - in which direction should the arrows point on the ISV - from front to back of the car or from back to front (1993 964)? Having removed it and cleaned it, I have realised that I forgot to note which way it should go back...it looks as though it should go this way - er, no, perhaps that way - er, ask someone who knows...

What would be the effect if it were replaced the wrong way round?

Thank you

another idiot question (although more idiotic than the last one) what does ISV stand for? im guessing I is for idle and V is for valve?..

Im just wondering whether this part is related to the hunting my 964 has developed at idle when warming up?..
started it for the first time tonight after it being off the road for some work and its hunting quite wildly, infact first big hunt it stalled.. seems alright after a few mins once its off choke

Idle Stabiliser Valve, Ben [;)]

and yes a I believe a dirty ISV can cause hunting problems at idle but I have no direct experience of this as mine's fine so I haven't tried cleaning it as described in the Rennlist thread above.

Here's another DIY thread for cleaning the ISV:

thanks steve.. it was late, i'd had a long day at work, etc., etc.. [:D]
mine seemed to get better so it might just be that it wasn't started for about 10weeks, however I might clean the thing out anyway and try re-setting the DME by removing the battery for 1/2hr or whatever it is.. It will no doubt get quite a bit of driving once its back on the road, so plenty of time for it to "re-map" itself

can't be arsed to read the guides, but offer this advece:
don't clean the ISV in anything more aggressive than white spirit...
and it the ISV is okay look for an air leak in the hose. That should cure the hunting.
Apologies if this has all been said before.
PS: on the American model the S in ISV stands for Stabilizationalizing
