I've been having trouble with cold starts on my S2 ever since I bought the car (I have to hold the throttle to stop the car cutting out for a couple of minutes until it warms through a bit), and at the moment my independant's theory is that the problem is my idle control valve. He's fairly confident of this but obviously can't be certain until the unit is replaced.
This leaves me with a dilemma, whether I buy a new ICV or whether I install one taken from a breaker.
The trouble is that a new ICV is expensive (well, it seems it at the moment with so much money being pumped into the car) however fitting seems like it'll be labour intensive as it looks like the exhaust manifold needs removing. The labour to fit the ICV means I wouldn't want to fit one from a breaker only to have it fail a few months down the line.
So, what is the consensus on how long ICVs last? Do they fail frequently or would it be reasonable to install one from a breaker?
Thanks,
Matt.
