Idle Stabilisation Vavle

Hi,
I've just taken the 993 in to 911Sport for a pre Le Mans service and MOT, apparently my Idle Stabilisation Valve has failed! I had the normal problem with it sticking a few weeks ago and gave it a clean out with carb cleaner and WD40, this improved the sitiuation but not cured it. The garage reports that the valve internals appear to have collapsed. Has anybody else had a similar experience or know roughly how much they are to replace?

Cheers,
Phil

Phil,

What symptoms were you were experiencing. I presume fluctuation of idle speed but when cold/warm etc, which indicated the valve was sticking or needed replacing?

John,
The idle speed was occasionally hang up at 1200 rpm or alternatively the engine would cut out when pulling up at a junction. It felt like it couldn't catch the idle position following a rapid drop in revs, other than that, it pulled fine and was not lumpy at all.

Regards,
Phil

From Porsche you are looking at £360.00 for a ISV, we list them at £180.00, easy enough to swap over

A few years ago my C4 had exactly the same symptoms. I cleaned the ISV and saw a small temporary improvement but finally discovered it was the air filter. I'd ignored checking that because it had been changed a while before - however the clutch was due to be changed and all sorts of muck was getting sucked into the air filter from the bellhouse breather. The air filter was completely black.

It does sound like your ISV but worth a quick look at the state of the airfilter.

Regards
Anton

Thanks for that Anton, the car's in for a service anyway so they should be checking the filter.
Hoping to get the car back on Friday....
