idle up and down

hi

i have a Porsche 944s 1986

the idle is up and down all over the place i think the problem is the idle stabilizer valve

does this engine have one and where is it located

or does anyone have a better idea of what would be causing this

On the S2 it's toward the front of the head, under the inlet manifold, basically between the fron ttwo ports. I expect the S is pretty similar.

cheers

will the inlet manifold have to come off

is it better to clean it out or just replace it

It comes off with a bit of wiggling and poking. IIRC there is a hose clamp or something that has to come off first. I cleaned mine around 17k miles ago and it's still fine.

hi

is it a bosch part if so does anyone have the bosch part number for it ( for a 944s 1986)

mine is held on with plastic tie wraps what goes through it fuel or air as i am a bit worried as it is only held on with tie wraps

cheers anyone for help

hi

found it on PET it only has a Porsche part number 944 606 160 00 £189.44 + VAT [:-]

but my local Auto Save says if i can get the Bosch number they will get the part for me half that price

i would like to have the part before i remove the inlet manifold as i dont want to have to refit everything if they dont have one in stock

so if anyone has a Bosch number for one i would be most greatfull

You shouldn't have to remove the manifold. I got mine out with a bit of faffing. You could take the old one off and look for the Bosch part number I guess.

hi

ok i will try and remove it with manifold in place so i guess there will be a few colourfull words said tomorrow[:D]

Good luck! Hope it cures the problem - oh and its only air (vacuum) as far as I know. Could it be leaking though? that may cause an uneven idle.

hi

well managed to get the hoses off the idle stabiliser valve BUT it does not fit throught between the inlet manifold
so after a bit of scratching the head desided to remove the inlet manifold sounds simple untill you start and see what else has to come off like the fuel rail, injectors, throttle linkage, fuel lines and some of the air filter ducting but i was glad i had because the previous owners way of doing it has resulted in quite a few cuts in the rubber hoses that conect to the idle valve so a lot of air leaks there

cleaned the valve with carb cleaner and held it accross the battery a it work fine tried to get new hoses but was unable to get them today so came up with the idea of cutting them a bit shorter so you can guess how hard it was to put back together also used jubilee clips to hold the hoses on instead of plastic ties

and here is the Bosch part number if anyone is interested(0 280 140 514)

so the next time i am in there i wander if i extend the hoses would it be possable to reposition the idle stabiliser valve to on top of the inlet manifold or would it fowl the bonnet that would make it a lot easer to clean the next time

a trip to scrap yard to look for hoses sometime me thinks
