Idling Issues

Hi, my 944 idles around 6oorpm and there is a fairly uncomfortable shudder at this rev point. However when I add a little revs to 1000rpm the car sits and purrs beautifully. Is this the standard for everyone else's? Is there away to adjust the idle speed to always sit at 1000rpm? Can I do it myself? If not how much will it cost? Any help really appreciated, Wes

The idle adjustment screw is on top of the throttle body. In theory you will need to disable the Idle Stabalisation Valve (ISV) to adjust this or the valve will just be trying to counteract your adjustments. There are insturctions on how to do this in the 944 workshop manual which you can get online at Rick Cannells website if it is still up and running.

It is possible that by adjusting the idle you can screw up your AFR at idle so it will be worth checking that out also once you have set your idle.

This occurs because the AFR at idle is set by a screw on the AFM which basically bypasses some air past the 'barn door' to change it's angle and therefore the amount of fuel that is commanded. Quite crude but effective.

The alternative is to take it into a Porsche specialist and he'll have it done in a jiffy while you wait which is what i'd do!!!
