Read the manual. I feel really stupid but am happy to share my stupidity in the hope it may help others.
I've had an intermittent problem (I thought) with the nearside front indicator bulb. Replaced a couple and then another failed which on closer examination (put me glasses on) hadn't failed but still didn't work.
At this point it's fair to say that electrics are probably not a strong point for me. However I do have lots of test thingies that I have bought at shows and have no idea what they do. An hour later (and thoroughly confused and depressed) having dismantled both front indicators I still didn't have flashing lights, This is after attempting to trace wires that seemed to have nothing flowing through them, although at various points I had found lots of live ones to the extent that the cat had decided that curiosity might just kill it and had retired to comfort the central heating.
Plan B dig out the instruction book to see which terminal is for the indicators.
It then emerged that (strangely) that there is one fuse that seems to cover most of the back end of the car but that each front indicator has its own. It then emerged that a poor connection on the fuse post was the culprit.
