Iffy Radio Reception

Recently my fm radio reception has deteriorated, with the reception regularly fluctuating between good and bad on the same commute journey where it's been fine for several years. Attempting to retune causes the radio to scan indefinitely. (its a Sony head unit)

Does anyone have an idea as to whether the windscreen ariel can breakdown or could it just be the head unit on the wayout?[:mad:]

Oh, I just assumed that my Sony was permanently bad at following RDS signal changes. Just had it replaced by a Becker and that solved the problem completely.

But clearly, from your description of how it's changed, it might have been a simpler problem to fix...[:eek:]

I never actually checked the cabling because it was poor (in/out) reception from the moment I bought the car. Could be that there has been a change in transmitters. Do you see same problem on other journeys?
