Ignition amplifier

Car has now been sprayed but just to shows its gratitude it will not start. I have taken it from the paint shop to another garage they have traced the problem to the ignition amplifier part number 930 602 702 00. Has anyone had any experience with these units are they repairable the garage seems to think so or where can I get one and how much.

That'll be the 6 pin CDI unit then. The cost of a new one is outrageous and even second hand I've seen them advertised for £200+. They sometimes come up on eBay for around the £100 mark (albeit second hand with little guarantee of provenance). If it helps I saw this the other day:

No connection with me whatsoever and I've never come across the guy before - if you use him please leave some feedback on this forum.

£495 from Euro car parts. £495 + VAT from Europorsha free delivery though.
£395 from JZ machtech + vat for a remanufactured one. From the sound of things there are a lot of them failing as most people I have spoken to have them in stock ready. I spoke to the bloke that Tripe mentioned in the previous post and he makes a replacement unit £200 plus the cost of him coming to fit it from Leyland to Kent. I also spoke to an official Bosch dealer hard work and still waiting for a price. OPC £1250!!!!!! Does anyone know of anyone in the south east doing them.
Cheers Baz

What about this - not only a replacement but an upgrade and about £250 plus the shipping

Cheers John and Andrew that sounds a much better price for what is much newer technology. Has anyone had any experience of Mittelmotor or Perma - Tune ? The other option Iam sounding out is getting the unit repaired but that is subject to availability of components.

Your other option is give me £250 for mine and I will go Perma-Tune [8D] [:D]

If you fancy second hand why not give the boys at 'Garage Willy' a ring (seriously, that's what it's called). They must have one amongst all their stuff:

What a site, what a state, what a place!! They've even put in a link so you can listen to Mozart whilst you're browsing this automotive nirvana. I'd happily spend a day wading through their stock rooms in search of hidden treasure. Perhaps an idea for a register trip?!? Tongue firmly planted in cheek.

Latest update I took the box off the car this evening and thought I would have a look in it, glad I did as I found the problem was only a broken connection between the plug and the printed circuit board. Held the 2 bits together with long nose pliers wife turned ignition on box buzzed as it should car started!!!!!!!! Will get connection soldered up could be lots of money saved. Am still tempted to get a Perma _ Tune unit latter though.
