Ignition key and power!!!

Hi
It seems random when I start the car, whether the lights (and other power) come on. Local garage found nothing. I have realised that by shoogling the key in the barrel, power is connected. Any suggestions for a fix?
Happy New year, and thanks in advance....

Replace the ignition switch... a git of a job if the steering lock bolts have sheared off as they should be... but I have found they are not always sheared off so... which makes it a lot easier!

Shoogling
Word of the year. Right there. "Shoogling".

Writers of the OED will be dropping into Fife very soon to interview Mr Grewar on this impressive achievement. Well done Donald.

(BTW, your ignition barrel switch is worn. But please don't change it otherwise we won't get to use the word 'shoogling' any more.)

My 944 has a issue when its jack up most of the time key will no start the starter motor check wiring and there is no power getting the starter
but once the car is back on the floor its 99% of the time ok?
I have got a new ing switch which I am thinking of fitting soon.

That's a built-in safety feature to prevent your car from starting when jacked up. It's good to know that it's still working correctly after 20+ years.

This sounds like bit like an attempt at a quadruple ban :)

My 968 cab is the same - apparently the result of previous owners having far too many keys (and thus weight) on the same keyring as the ignition. The worn back part is about £70 - so after starting the car I just check the windows are working - if not, tweak the key a touch anticlockwise and everything works!
