I am now in the precarious position of having both main ignition keys that have cracked cases down low close to the tang. Both keys are cracked on the body, not button side, which leads me to conclude the casing is not strong enough to handle its primary job of taking the torquing strain of each engine twist. I noticed recently when test driving a 997.2 pdk that the key has been redesigned and appears made of a much more robust rubber compound as opposed to my 2005 997 C2. It appears that our generation or cars have keys made of Airfix brittle plastic. Withot stating the obvious I dont want to be taken a loan of to obtain new keys so I am wondering if any others have had the same issue and what have they been able to do about the matter other than buy some superglue!

My 4 year old keys look to be fine. I also have several other keys dangling off the same ring adding to any potential problem.
Mine are similarly broken I'm afraid - 40k miles of starting over 4 years is obviously beyond the reasonable lifetime of the keys, and the battery, and the dampers, the corroding wheels, creaking interior trim...
Lucky for us another £500 or so will buy you two new keys with a similarly short lifespan...
