Ignition key

Ive got the chance of the new style porsche key that folds in and flips out and wondered if i bought a blank blade to fit it would it fit my car if i get it cut the same as my key ??

Just a theory, but given that our keys are an old VW design I would hazard a guess that the newer cars have the latest type of VW keys. These are quite different in shape (much thicker and with the lock opening part on the side rather than the edge).

However its only a theory, I'm sure someone will come along who has both soon and prove me wrong [:)].
best regards,
Peter.

In think you might be right as i looked at a new style golf key last night which looked very similar to the new porsche key and the blade looked totally different !!!

As long as the blade is larger than the conventional key I don't see why it isn't possible to cut the conventional key into the blade. You might need to file down the blade to the same size as a conventional key blank before taking it to the locksmiths to cut the key, but technically it is possible.

Hi David

I haven't disassembled one, but I have built a new one and as I remember it was an effort to get the blade into the plastic portion, so I am not surpised to hear of your woes. For reference, a new blade is about £13 from an OPC and then it cost be £3 to have it cut, so you could go down this route if it all gets too much.

Cheers

James
