Ignition Key

I have recently purchased a 997 C2S Tiptronic Cab...but I have a problem with the ignition key. When I place it in the lock, the steering unlocks ok but as soon as I turn the key, 3 out of 5 times nothing happens...all the the warning lights go out. Then I take the key out and try again everything is ok. I know there is nothing wrong with the starter system. My local OPC tell me that it might be either a key reader or a relay...but they are not sure .....the price difference in changing the reader over the relay is £450......they say I must order both parts just in case.

Anyone have any ideas?

Spooky ! Mine has started doing same thing lately. I find turning the wheel a bit seems to bring it back to life, but don't ask me why [&:]

Going to try spare key now also...

Sounds like the reader/immobiliser system.

It may just be a delay. Have you tried leaving the key turned on in the ignition for a couple of minutes?

If this doesn't work, my only other suggestion would be to find yourself a good independent auto electrician to see if he can fix it beoffre laying out loads on replacement parts.

Good luck. [:)]
