Guys anyone been here removing the key and "getting the column lock to lock applied",it can move the ignition assembly slightly.
I've sort of notice on mine that the ignition key hole is slightly rotated round meaning the rubber bung is compressed at the bottom in the dash trim this over many years of being driven, I found out when I replaced the Indicator stalk and tightening up the 24mm steering column nut yesterday when I lost all the position II electrics...Oh joy!
I could get them back and all working rotating the ignition lock assembly back again ,,,,Phew! but it appears over time the friction fit on the ignition assembly and part 43 and shear bolts part no 36 (which as designed can't re-tighten) have lost the interference fit on the steering column shaft so manually applying force on the steering wheel to locate the column lock you can twist it back and forth under pressure applied through the steering wheel loosing the II electrics, the thought of getting to this is a major job getting the old shear bolts out and locking bar clamp too have to say is a bitch, perhaps dash out.
So as a good fix have screwed in 2 stainless self tappers in the gaps applying extra force on the clamp bar 43 and the steering column shaft! and it doesn't move a fraction now
