ignition radio problems

Hi guys. iv got a little problem with my ignition and the radio.
when i turn the ignition on the engine starts up fine etc but the raio doesnt work properly,
for me to get the radio to work, i nearly have to turn the key back to the off position before the radio works.
do you recon it is the ignition switch? if so, how easy is it to replace?

Cheers,
Chris.

Its a possibility.

The part that usually goes is 111-905-865-L which is basically the electrical half of the ignition switch. I've done this one but can't remember the precise sequence. I think if you lie in the drivers seat with your head under the steering column you will see the ignition cables going up the column onto contacts of this electrical switch which is held in place with one screw. It should be possible to pull this plastic covered switch out and replace with new - write down which wires go where - without disturbing the lock assembly which is what the key goes into. The switch plugs in the back of the lock assembly.

The plastic that the switch is made of ages over time and cracks resulting in wooly selection of the ignition key position functions.

I'm not sure whether you need to remove the black plastic around the column for access but I'll have a look and let you know.

I've had a look and I think it requires more disassembly than I said above (I had all the steering apart anyway when I did that job too, so I'm not sure of the minimum that you would need to take off). I think the steering wheel, and the plastic covers behind which will reveal the lock assembly so you can get at that switch mounting screw. Hope that helps?

Firstly, i would just like to say how pleased i am with the service and delivery from german, swedish and french as i ordered a new starter switch and ht leads and they were here the next day, nice.
secondly, i managed to replace my starter switch without any problems and it cured everything, i now have radio [:D] i didnt realise it was that easy to replace, thaught it would be harder than that, seems as though haynes dont show you anything.

Cheers guys
