Ignition switch replacement

Of late I've noticed that when I first start the car my electrical functions are limited. Sunroof and indicators work but reversing lights, heater fan, lights, windows etc don't. It takes a wiggle of the key to produce an electrical click somewhere on the passenger side to make it all work.
So I assume my ignition switch needs work. Looking at Clarkes it is quite involved and I don't want a new key so has anyone done this?
Is it just a case of carefully taking it apart or is there more to it?
Cheers

You likely need to replace the key cylinder as well as the switch as it may well be the cylinder is just as worn as the switch. Regarding retaining your key - any qualified locksmith should be able to match your new ignition cylinder to your existing key assuming it is in good condition. If its quite worn you might want to get a new one cut from your old one - blanks are available that will fit into your existing key head - and have the new cylinder matched to the fresh key (after you have confirmed the new key operates the doors and hatch). If they match to an old key and you end up having to get a new one cut you may have trouble (I had new keys cut when I needed to replace my lighted key heads and one of the two required some tweaking before it worked well in all locks).

As you've been through Clark's you already know about the need to replace the breakaway bolts, etc.
