Ignition Switch

It's difficult to tell from the GSF picture and not knowing the model year of your car.
For a 1979 924, it is a VW part:- OEM Part Number: 111.905.865.L as fitted to VW Beetle 1971 on, VW T2 Bay 1974-9, VW T25 1979-92.

I found one on the following website for £12.50

or with a slightly different part number (ring them to check) on

Hi Vince,

My Model year is 77, VW/Audi used 111 905 865 L on a massive range of cars, was looking at the Febi website just now P/N 26652
Mine is a 7 Pin Switch which the one on GSF is, £9.08 not bad like, just unsure of the brand etc

I have heard of cars cutting out because the bunch of keys hanging from the ignition key was too heavy, and also when you factor in a worn ignition barrel and loose wiring it is worth getting a fresh key and checking over systems before replacing the barrel.

But then I'm a purist at heart [;)]

I had a problem with my 968 cab, start the engine and the windows, heater etc would not work, move the key a tiny amount anti clockwise and everything worked - replaced the back part of the ignition switch (the small part with the wiring and connector attached) and all now works properly. Caused, so I was told, by wear of the connectors caused by too much weight on the ignition key, previous owners with too many keys on the same link. However, someone had already tried to remove the 2 screws holding the offending item to the back of the ignition barrel, so instead of a 30 minute easy job it was binnacle out and 2 hours, which made curing an annoyance into an expensive job!

The plastic of the back part of the switch ages, cracks and fails to hold the electrical connections properly too - all sorts of random effects.

Mine seems to have melted a bit, also the wipers don't work so I hope this is the problem

Ordered from VW Heritage via there ebay shop, £12.50 delivered ??
