On a GEN 2 model (mine is a GTS), does anyone know how to connect into a circuit activated by the ignition switch, as both power sockets feed directly off the battery. I want to connect up my speed camera detector without the bother of remembering to switch it off every time, so converting the footwell socket to be live with the ignition on would be ideal.

Ignition switched 12V feed

On a BMW I had the same dilemma - I wanted to have my device around the interior mirror but with a very short and neat power lead. Was fed up trailing something right down to the console for the usual 12V sources. Also wanted a switched source.
I fitted a small 1.3mm micro power socket behind the interior dome light cluster and drilled the tiny hole to permit me to plug into it with the lead from the camera detector. The dome light cluster had a ignition fed connection somewhere to it as the lights are dimmed out when you turn on the ignition. I imagine the 997 dome cluster has similar - some poking about with a DVM should find the required candidate. Also, as you can remove and unplug the cluster to work on it, it should be a tidy and easy job. The hole was as good as invisible in black car.
Of course, if you do this, it's so easy to unplug the need for switched is a bit less critical.

Hi. I have done this for my camera detector I went to halfords an brought a Normal looking fuse but it has a wire coming off it I did I by trial and error but you will find a switchable empty fuse in the fuse box 997 gen 1 is drivers side by your right foot
You don't want to do it like the photo above, because the wire won't be fused!
Like Darren, I used a fuse tap:

Thanks for the tip. The wired fuse seems to be the better way as it will be reversible and hopefully I can hide the lead under the carpet. Incidentally I did ask the Porsche main dealer about this issue when I bought the car three years ago and they couldn't help.
