I'll name that noise in three.....

Well actually I can't......When I start the car and sometimes when moving I hear a noise not unlike a cat that has been drawn into a blender,
I sometimes fix it by putting the centre console control to full, ie full heat on windscreen and full fan speed and off again. and the noise stops other times i move the directional arm and it stops.
The noise sounds like its coming from within the dash, so combined with the heater controls sometimes fixing [FONT=Times New Roman"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I used to have noises coming from my ventilation system caused by dried leaves in the ducting, however yours sounds like it must be something "harder" to make a screaming noise - perhaps your fan hitting its housing ??

You know what, I get exactly the same - more like the sound of a bearing going - but then it goes if I put the "climate control" onto full. Like you, sometimes I just move the arm back and forth and it goes.

Would love to know the fix before I dimantle the entire dash....

I get this too from time to time. Haven't managed to work out a consistent set of circumstances in which it happens, or which appear to cure it.

That'll be a lot of help then!

However, I will now be thinking about your cat when it happens Brian...

Had a similar noise on my wifes car traced it down to the rear fan blower motor bearing this was on the way out

It may be one of the heater fans with a dry bearing, to check this out you only need to remove the power to each fan in turn, footwell fans just remove each fuse and the fresh air blower fan (luggage compartment) just take out the power plug , you may be able to track down the fault this way
hopefully

[:D] Thanks Graham thats the pointer I was looking for,
The only wailing I want to hear is the flat six in the back,

I'll let you all know how I get on

Thanks for all replies

PS I don't have a cat , but the neighbours hasn't been around in a while

Thanks
Brian

Sounds like a footwell fan to me but I'm surprised you've not manage to localise it. I would get the same thing sometimes, especially if the car had not been used for a while. After a few seconds at full blast it would clear. On a 3.2 the footwell fans only run at speed when the control is in the red section (positions 6, 7 and 8 I think).
