A few weeks back I noticed that sometimes when I started the engine the large red warning light would come on then go out again. Sometimes it didn't even come on at all but as the weeks passed I noticed that the warning light was invariable on glaring at me every journey.
About this time I noticed that the front nearside pads seemed to have worn through as a slight graunching noise on braking became steadily worse.

Ah ! I thought to myself that is what the warning was for .. the brake pads.![;)]

For the past 2 weeks I started a new job and have been covering about 100 miles a day cringing every time I braked as the pads made that horrible graunching noise which you sort of feel through the pedal more than hear.

Today I stopped for some screen wash and fuel and as I leant forward to get my wallet out my back pocket I became aware of another small red warning light at the bottom left of the dash pod normally hidden by the steering wheel.

Mmm I thought I wonder what that says . Put my reading glasses on lean forward and read e.n.g.i.n.e. o.i.l. ! bluddy ell .Pull the bonnet check the stick ...no oil on the stick at all ! jeezus ! wtf ? the oil pressure has been steady at 4.5-5 bars all the time?

Rather sheepishly ask the garage mechanic for a quart of oil and proceed to pour most of it into the engine.[:(] I can almost hear him thinking " another rich twat with more money than sense"

Thinking back to the last time I checked the oil level I vaguely remember it needing about a pint but cannot actually remember putting the oil in ! probably because I couldn't get into the rear hatch because the hatch won't open ......

I'm going to have to get the hatch fixed this w/e as tonight the offside rear brake light and indicator bulb has failed......

Nick,
Sounds as if you need to ask Father Christmas for a couple of sack-loads of 'Preventative Maintenance'. I always have some handy in all my cars. Can save a lot of time and money if used correctly, follow the instructions on the packaging.
Father Christmas will have to bring you some new discs as well as pads next week. Contact his representative in Wales (Bert Gear- Berlyn Services) to see if he has any.

Cheers,
