IM BACK!!! but looking for advice lol

New member
hi guys first of all im back!!!

for those that dont know me im a new member called richie (25 years old) and i joined a wee while ago however i have been really really busy the last 3-4months planning a wedding and paying for it lol.

current car : 2003 subaru impreza sti ppp (305bhp) (use it day to day)

my situation is this always loved porsches and swore to myself i would buy one so here i am lookin to pick your brains and learn from what you guys have done/seen. I intend to be a porsche man from now on.

now i love my current car it is great fun but there is one problem all it does is "fast", thats it, it is not that comfy over long distance and you dont so much feel everybump on the road but you basically become one with the bump if you get what i mean. Now this was all fine when i bought it 2 years ago but now im looking for a much better day to day car.

ideal situation is to keep my current car for trackdays and weekend toy and have another car for going to work and general day to day driving

my original idea was to sell up my current car and buy a 996 911 turbo for around £25k however apon reflection of the next 3-5 years of my life theres going to be a problem with that, the wife is going to want a much bigger house and have kids so i will need to save up and buy one so i cant just go mental and buy a 911 turbo just now....bit gutted but i will get one some day

so im looking for a porsche ideally a boxster s but i could sell my current car and maybe get a £16000 911 basically looking for your thoughts and recommendations on what i should do

budget £10000 cash (will rise by £500 a month every month)

or should i just walk into the OPC in glasgow trade in my current car and buy a porsche for around the £25k mark and thats me set for the next 3 years?

also just wondering if there is anyone in the renfrew area with a boxster S or a 911 that wouldnt mind taking me out in it and answering some more detailed questions about porsche ownership, i would be happy to return the favour and take you out and give you a shot of my car in return. i live 2 mins from OPC glasgow

best thing to do , is to pop along to one of the glasgow meets for a gab,

first tue of the month, sherbrooke hotel, not far from you, around 8pm,

or there is an open night at porsche glasgow this wed,

i have emailed details to everyone on the clubs mailing list, (let me know if you are not recieving club updates)

as for which porsche to buy, all have their strengths and weekness, depends on if its a daily, 2 seats, 4 seats and how much you want to pay for maintenance, (difficult question to answer) a 25k boxster would be quite, new, 2 seats, have fairly heavy depreciation, lovely car to drive,

a 996 turbo, much, much faster, and much more expensive to run, especically as it will be older and likely to need more maintenance,

I would think on 10k miles per year a boxster would cost about a grand a year on service including tyres, a turbo would easily be twice that over a period as it will need more maintenance,

newer porsches are 24 monthly service, older ones are annual, etc, etc, etc,

£25k turbos are at the bottom end of the price where as £25 for a boxster will get you a two year old one with low miles.

cheers
scott.

There is now no shortage of Boxsters available at your £10k budget. Many of them will be rough, a few of them will be downright ropey, so tread with care. However, a mate of mine recently bought an absolute honey of a 2.7 Boxster for this sort of money, which just shows that really good cars are out there, but he had to sort through a fair amount of dross to find it. As ever, do your homework, and caveat emptor!
