Hi fellow members

I'm now looking at buying a 996 , I'd really like a carrera 4S but as long as it's an "S" I really don't mind too much , it's always a daunting experience when buying a second hand high performance car and even more so when your talking about a Porsche , I'm a Mercedes-benz technical specialist by trade but I've no real experience with porsche and obviously they are very different vehicles.

i'd really appreciate any advice on what I should be looking for when buying this model , is there any paticular year or model I should avoid?

Regards
Mark

Mark!

There is a buyer's check list in this thread, which might be useful: https://www.porscheclubgb../forum/tm.aspx?m=269468
There is also a Model History on that page, which will give an insight to the extensive, and confusing, range of models.

The only wide-bodied 996 Carrera "S" model is the C4S. The C2S was introduced with the 997. People often advertise 996 Tiptronic S models as Carrera S, and it often says that on the V5C, which causes confusion.

Good luck with your search!

Hi Richard

Many thanks for the info , I've had a read through and there are some interesting items to watch out for , some of them are applicable to most cars when looking to buy obviously but some in there I wasn aware of.

Thanks again richard il let you know how I get on [:)]

regards
Mark .

It is worth getting the nearest Porsche specialist to look over any car that has passed your first round of checks. Also check that a diagnostic test can be performed.

With your research and their expertise you should then reduce the risk of getting one that needs money spending on it.

Been following this chap on YouTube recently as he gives some great advice for looking after and cleaning/detailing cars.

I know he's looking at a different model in this vehicle but some of what he talks about makes a lot of sense and might help you too

If your buying private he gives a good tip where he says to get the seller to take you out for a drive so you can see how the cars been handled while in their possession.

Good luck with the hunt let us know how you get on

Thanks for the information, I've watched the video on you tube , I must admit there are some clever little tips on there that can help to find out things thaT could be easily over looked due to complacency .

Il let you know how things go ??
