I'm looking to buy a 996

Hi. i'm desperately trying to find a 996 C2 or C4 cab. Unfortunately I am very specifdic and only want artic silver/blue; artic silver/red; artic silver/black; black/black; black/red. Also I want Sat Nav and the car must not have more than 50k miles. I am looking for one that is in excellent condition as this is my dream car and I dont want to compromise. Can anyone help me ? I have been searching on the normal sites....

I had the same dilemma earlier this year when I was looking for a 996 cab. No easy lesson but a few things I learnt ...

1. OPC's are about £5k more than private/independent dealers for the same car on a £40k car
2. There is a lot of rubbish out there - if you aren't happy walk away - gut instinct coutns for a lot
3. Get somebody who knows what they are doing to help you make the choice - take either an independent inspection or find someone from your region with good knowledge.

If you want a list of places to look try the top end of this very long post- http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=20498&mpage=1&key=buying&anchor#23151

I was lucky and found a genuine private car with a genuine reaosn for sale.

regards

PS I am no expert but was told that a C2 cab was quieter but a C4 cab handled better in wet - obvious really !!

Get somebody to source one.

Some years ago I asked AFN for a 964 C4, they found a good one within a week. Sure, you may pay an OPC premium if you go that route, but £1500 or so of that is a years warranty.

I don't think you will have a problem getting the colour combinations you want, but the Sat nav was an expensive option & only seems to be in "vogue" for the more recent cars (01 onwards-ish) !!
Best sources for S/H Porkers are Top Marques & the Sunday Times (mags & websites) you can afford to be picky & make sure you get a full OPC check over if you do go the private route. It's also worth looking back over past threads re-specs., C16 imports etc etc.
Best of luck.

If, at the end of your 996 hunt, you have found the car you want and have a useful tale to tell of your experiences, nightmares, lessons learned, mistakes made, helpful suggestions etc.etc.etc. I 'd be only to please to whang a bottle of fine single malt in your direction for a sight of your saga, since I, too, will be embarking on the same voyage quite soon and would welcome a few tips !

One good question that we'd both benefit from getting an answer on:-

Just how much is it a buyer's market at present ?

Cheers,
S.G.Lyden-Brown.
p.s. for those of you who may be getting just a tad tired of my constant plea for help and guidance, all I can say is that I don't often spend £60,000 on a car and I expect my next 911 to be my last one !

JM79: C4 cab, black/black, tip, 18", sat nav, FPSH, currently 12k miles, Zymol 'Car of the Month' 04/02 will be available early '04 (when or just before my turbo cab arrives).

thank you so much. it looks absolutely beautiful and is perfect apart from the fact that I am specifically looking for a 6 speed manual and want it for immediate purchase. Good luck in your sale.

To the owner of JM79. Did you get my email indicating my interest in your car.
I ask this question since I have not seen my email displayed in the Forum.

I went through the process recently looking for a 993 Turbo but I guess the general priciples would be the same searching for a 996. It took me a while as I was also specific about what I wanted but if you want a good one, you need to be patient. I used www.autotrader.co.uk and www.exchangeandmart.co.uk and also www.phil.uk.net/porsche/links.html which has a section "Dealers and Servicing" that lists various dealer websites.

In the end I bought privately so to make sure it was okay, I had an OPC inspect it for me at a cost of £150. I also bought a warranty from them for £950 for the added peace of mind.

Good luck!

[:)][:)][:)] Well i finally founf what I was looking for after 3 months of searching. A beautiful Artic Silver C4 Cab with 18 inch cross spoke alloys. lowered sports chassis etc etc. It's everything I thought it would be and more.
I found it very difficult to find the right car. I saw at least 3 and all had a bad story to tell. I didnt see it but my mechanic did... i used a middle man in the end and he founf me a beauty. Also I would recommend Paragon Porsche down in Five Ashes near East grinstead.... Good luck
