Immobiliser issues

My Dad's 964 has refused to start this morning, in fact it will not even turn over and it appears that the immobiliser will not 'mobilise'?

Apart from disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, any suggestions?

Don't think it is the DME realy as the car is 'mobilising' in the first instance to even turn the engine over.

The original one with the little fob that you have to push into a slot in a mating part near the steering column - not sure of the make though.

As there is no sign of the engine turning over, it has to be that?!
 
I would trace the wiring back from the mating part by the steering wheel and locate the box for the immobiliser and disconnect it. It does sound as this is what is causing the problem. Are there any relays clicking when you turn the key or is it compleatly dead?. Normally all the wiring for the imobiliser is under the dash panel on drivers side in the bonnet release handle area. You maybe able to see where the wires join if you look up in there. They are normally either 2 or 3 circuits that are imobilised.

Hope you get to the bottom of it.

With the ignition on are the lights & wipers working ok? Ie nothing silly like a flat battery. You reset the Hamilton & Palmer immobiliser by keeping in the recepticle for about 20/30 seconds. If it does not reset check the aux fuses for this which can be either below the steering column or in the fusebox depending who has fitted it. Being realistic it probably needs a new receptacle which are becoming hard to get. I think about £30 from your local Porsche Centre. Good luck.
 
Nick the first 964 that I went to view would not start due to the immobiliser. The poor seller tried everything that he could to get it to go but to no avail. I left after never hearing the engine run. I made the 150 mile journey home and he later rang me to say that he finally locked the car up as normal and went back to it after a couple of hours and it started first time. Somehow it had just locked down and needed time to reset.

I didn't bother to go and see it again because the extensive rust and obvious replacement panels had put me off buying it anyway. [&:]
 
Its I believe a system fitted by hamilton and palmer, there should be a spare fob, and you may well have to wiggle it, the reason of many why I got shot of mine.....there's a relay in the LHS dash you can hear, and the immobiliser itself sits elsewhere, (not for discussion here) you can hear them dissengage, 30 secs and no ignition means thay need immobilising again.

I went for a PA2000 hamilton and Palmer fitted Porsche syste, but it was £576 fitted....

Clean the contacts, it may help, but as with any mechanical device, it can and will simply wear out.
