immobiliser question?

My husband recently had a problem with his subaru when the transponder in the key was affected by some microwave signals whilst he was out and rendered the key unusable and the car immobilised about 3 miles from home.
After a bit of panicking he discovered from the subaru dealer that there is a panel under the dash which drops down and has a keypad in it. He was able to enter a code which unscrambled the transponder unit and reset the key and immobiliser. there was no mention of this in the manual.
I was quite impressed by this feature and started to wonder if there is something similar on the porsche or would it need to be recovered and reset by the dealer?
Anyone know? It could be quite useful information!

Nice idea, but nothing like that on a 996. You have to re-program the alarm control unit with a Porsche tester to match it to the immobiliser transponder (and remote) in the key head.
