Immobiliser/Remote problem

i have a 1996 Carrera S and after leaving the car in the garage for 3 weeks the alarm fob does not unlock the car/ disable the immobiliser. I have tried replacing the fob battery and still no luck. Is there a way to temporarily disable the immobiliser to use/start the car, also can anyone suggest where to get the fib looked at or a DIY solution.

Steve. May be the same as the newer cars in that the immobiliser goes into hibernation after a set period.
Try unlocking the door with the key but dont open it, then press the button and see if it has woken up.

Do you have more than one remote? You can silence the alarm by using the small key in the alarm in the engine bay on the left
Does the alarm light stop flashing when you press the unlock button? If it goes solid immobiliser is off
I had an issue that I thought it was the immobiliser but it was the ground on the main battery

Hi many thanks for the help, I have tried locking and unlocking then repeating the drivers door and putting the key turning to position 2 Within 15 seconds. I guess the only positive is the immobiliser tones kick in after a few seconds! however, turning the key causes the lights to start flashing again, I have tried the small key in the box on the left of the engine bay, turning it clockwise causes alarm to go off. I only have one remote, plus the master remote, which still doesn't seem to operate the alarm or central locking system even though the neon flashes, I have charged the battery and will try swapping it out for another battery later today.

Steve, The red master does not work in same way as the key ring remotes. The red master is for programming the key ring remotes. Good that it sounds like it is talking to the alarm unit. If you don't have the instructions for the red master let me know and I'll find them. I think the instruction about turning key to position 2 is from the main manual and applies to the German factory alarm and not to the UK (more secure) Hamilton and Palmer alarm.

As Anton mentioned above H&P are incredibly helpful on the phone - just give them a call when you are at the car and they will talk you through diagnosing the problem.
 
When you set of the alarm count tge number of flashes as that usually informs you what the problem is. See manual or tell H&P
 
Hi Maurice, yes still have the car and finally sorted out the drivers door check strap I have ended up with 3 batteries for two cars thanks to the lack of reliability of the Bosch silver, though they do get replaced under the guarantee, tried a new battery, same problem.

many thanks to all for the advice, I ordered a replacement remote from Hamilton and Palmer which arrived on Friday, which I coded with the red master, took two tries but it now works fine. I have sent the original remote to H&P for repair and Jim wI'll look at it when he is in on Wednesday. So now that there is a brief break in the torrential SW rain, I'll take the car out today.

when I bought my 993 Targa in 2015, it came with 2 remotes but no red master. Should I have a red master?
 

I asked Jim from H&P the same question and he said you only need a red one if you need to reprogram new or existing ones
