Immobiliser will not deactivate

Hello people,

I have a question which has been bugging me for a week now and I just cant seem to pin point the problem, I have a 944 s2 1990, and for some strange reason when I put the immobiliser key fob into the hole in the steering column the immobiliser will not deactivate the light on the console stays red, this problem is intermittent.

But when I disconnect the battery for 30-60 min and reconnect it the immobiliser deactivates (sometimes).

I have also tried the write up on Clarke's garage the alarm system by-passing but still nothing.

btw before anyone says its my DME relay I replaced it 2 months ago. :)
I have also bought a second hand alarm modual and still nothing!

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The immobiliser/alarm system in the Clarks is for US only 944's unfortunately[][]

Sounds like a worn immobiliser key or the socket that it plugs into. Replacements are available from http://www.hamilton-palmer.co.uk/ who made the system for Porsche UK to install in our cars when they were imported

So is this a common fault with the key fobs? mine does look a tad bashed

I did have a look at the alarm wiring which is behind the glove box and there was this round cylindrical shaped unit which said vecta alarm, was this standard on the 944s I thought they all had Hamilton and palmer? [FONT=verdana, geneva"]

It's not common but it's not unheard of. Twenty years of sliding in and out of the socket can often wear the contacts quite thin so it's hard to make a good contact.

Yours sounds like it has an aftermarket box in there as well just to complicate matters [8|] I'd contact a local alarm specialist if you can't make any progress
