Import or Sell

Folks, a dilemma...
Few of u will know I have a 3.8 RS that someone dropped a nice interior into and a Gemballa motor...
Problem is this:
1) I live mostly in France and work in CH. The weather in my bit of France precludes me driving anything without aircon after about 7am and before 9pm... the car has no aircon. But more importantly Porsche France claim that RS Clubsports (as mine is officially by chassis number) are not road cars and won't issue me with the Certificate of Conformity I need to get French plates for it. (This despite my forgetting to mention the twin KKK turboladers...)

2) In my part of Switzerland they shoot you for 20kph over the speedlimit... however importation would be easier but it's going to cost me 11% of the value of the car!

3) I could import to the UK for zero cost and register to an address there... but I already run UK registered cars out here on UK insurance and I'm kinda concerned that the car isn't spending enough time in the UK to avoid a major wriggling from the insurance company if it was nicked/crunched. And it's a major hassle going back for the MOT each year...

4) People are waving large amounts of dough at me to liberate me from the car... especially since people have worked out exactly what it started life as...

Any advice? Anyone? Temptation to hit the bid and be rid of the problem is enormous... at least talk me out of it please?

Cheers
Rick

Depends how large the amounts of dough being waved and how much dough you paid in the first place.

The devil my DSCboy is in the detail.....

(PS really appreciate the email you sent me....when I get 10mins I'll come back to you Rick - cheers mate[:)])

While at the Spa Francorchamps Porsche Club weekend there were several Clubsport 964RS MOO3 N-GT cars, but they were all trailered. Allegedly in Belgium you can not road register a car with full built in cage. Thought EU law was consistant.

Sell it for loads of £££££££ sure you will make at least 20K Euro profit then buy a standard Lightweight with the change....or even buy a GT3 they are getting cheaper...£37K buys a really nice LHD car from GT Classics, sure Paul will do a PX...voila!

Cripes, 3 votes for sell???
I was at least expecting the traditional "don't sell it, you'll regret it forever, you'll never find another" etc.... especially from Des...
Not sure how much being waved... but got 3 dealers trying to lift it.... and all hinting it would be a significant profit...

Think I'm going to bite the bullet and pay up to register in CH, typing this out has kinda helped make up my mind... can't be parted from it, it's the fastest thing ever and it's such an incredible experience to drive I think I'd miss it always.

" Sell it for loads of £££££££ sure you will make at least 20K Euro profit then buy a standard Lightweight with the change...."
20k Euro buys a lightweight what? Wheelbarrow??

As for the Routemasters.... don't even go there... although nice 2001 996TT with just 20k km on the clock asking £42k just around the corner from me in CH... NO! Away from me Satan!

Cheers!

Keep it, you just spent 2 months raving about it and its not long enough yet to have built that special bond that you know it will.

Not sure Des is right about the 3....I know its on his site but not sure its actually available at that price....owner has it advertised at much more elsewhere.

Besides you can have the 3 as an additional....not as an instead of!

Don't sell it, you'll regret it forever, you'll never find another, etc.... [:D][:D][:D]

Seriously, keep hold of it for a few years and I think you'll find it worth a lot more - and you'll enjoy it in the meantime - and then you'll probably never want to part with it.

You know it makes sense. [;)]

Going to attempt a Swiss import. Decision made. Thanks for all the wise words!

Apologies for the brief wavering from the Leichtbau religion, but having been away racing I'd not even seen the car in 2 weeks, yet the French paperwork was harassing me everyday... then spoke to the t*sser at Porsche France and that was the final straw...
"But Monsieur, are you mad? Theees eeeeze a racin car, we do not conseeder these road cars, u can not drive this in France"... this is response just from seeing my RS C/S issue chassis number!
"But I've seen several on the road in France"
"You are meeestaken" Click.

Hmmm.... right, now to tackle the Swiss... difference being this time I don't speak the language! And then me and the car and the Col de Vence early Saturday morning... world will seem like a different place afterwards!

Cheers
Rick

Col de Vence and your machine would mean certain death for most people. Do you get out of second going up to St Martin?

Il flirtant avec deuxieme vitesse! ;O)

This car seems so special that you would never get over the loss, keep it !

2) In my part of Switzerland they shoot you for 20kph over the speedlimit

Eeek, drove across CH two years ago at *$& mph ( (lets just say, it only took 17 hours to drive from Milan to Lancaster in the UK, including waiting for the ferry, in a car that could only do 150 miles on a tank)

Ha ha! I don't get to use 4th, but 3rd I need to stop the wheelspin... in 2nd it just spins the tyres all the way from one hairpin to the next.... the Col is a little exciting and I certainly wouldn't take a passenger up there in it and expect them to still be breathing at the top... and you need to go early before all the cyclists get out as I think they would mark the paint work...

Then again, in second it spins the wheels at 5000 rpm on the flat as well as the torque gets too much for the tyres... (which I find a little astonishing since the turbos come in hard at 3500 and there is no problem for grip there..)

Gary, you were lucky, my IT boy got photo'd doing 111kph in an 80kph (motorway slip road so easily done, no schools or small children in the vicinity) and got a nice letter in the post asking for CHF3000 (£1300) and which 4 weeks would he like to do without his licence? First offence, no warning, no negotiation.

Since the car is staying, I've decided to start collecting the parts that I (or the next owner) would require to return it to it's original specification, my wanted list is below ;-) any guesses on what I'd need to pay for each item greatly appreciated:

3.8 RS motor
3.8 RS Biplane rear wing
Aluminium front lid
3.8 RS chassis number (hahahaha)

Cheers
Rick

International jet setter[8D]- you're a long way from the Super Coupe Cup now, Rick. Remember the Greek and his R5 turbo?
How's Julie?
Cheers
Paul

Those were the days Paul, the Greeks rental R5 Turbo trying to acheive flight velocities while shaking itself to bits down the Revett!
Maybe see you at Silverstone for the Brticar 24hours?? I'm looking for a sensible drive if you hear of anything... offered a GT3 RS but don't think it'll make the finish (or be within my price range!). I'm hoping to be out in something very very special in the Dutch Super Cars if anyone is in the vicinity... (waiting for the sign-off from NISMO for a Super GT Nissan GT500...)
Julz is doing well thanks, sends her regards... expecting #2 now... while #1 can drive but not speak yet!

I've found an ally bonnet for Euro 1000...
And an original RS 3.8 Rear wing for $2200... plus the postage ....

Those prices seem sensible?

Eur 1000 sounds about right for an ally bonnet assuming it's in good shape. As you probably know they are no longer available from Porsche. I believe 9m bought up the last few and were selling them for c.£600 from memory (they haven't got any left ........). As for the spoiler I have no idea I'm afraid.

I'll certainly see you at the Silverstone as I'm driving the Safety Car and JT has promised "something exotic" but won't say what. I'll ask him about a suitable drive for you and e-mail you off list.
Sue says "Hi" to you both as well
Cheers
Paul
