Import question

We have recently bought a boxster the good lady tried to add it to our insurance policy - multicar with Admiral.

They could not trace it from the registration number, after trying several different ways they still can't agree the car exists even though its in my garage!

The only explanation they can suggest is that the car is an import. There is nothing in the paperwork/logbook to suggest it is.

Any suggestions how I can check this out?

I feel pretty sure its not, especially when Admiral told her that they didn't think there was any such model as a Boxter S 3.2.

Thanks in advance.

If you go to this website and click on 'vehicle enquiry' then follow the steps, you will be able to see if the vehicle exists as far as the DVLA are concerned.

http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/application?origin=vnav_bar.jsp&event=bea.portal.framework.internal.refresh&pageid=Apply+for+a+tax+disc+NOW

If it exists, refer Admiral to the website !

Thanks for the reply Tony, I looked at that last night and the car does exist with all correct detail. Model/colour etc

But I sort of decided even if the car was an import, it would still have to be taxed so would be on the DVLA site, or is that thinking flawed?

If the car exists as far as the DVLA are concerned then one can insure it irrespective whether it is an import a self build, or Native to the UK.

Tell Admiral to have another look !

Look at your option codes to decide if the car was a UK one - ie C16 = UK - C18 = Japan

See http://www.964uk.com/Documents/Porsche%20Country%20Codes.pdf for full list of Country Codes[;)]

It's probably worth pursuing this with admiral and make sure the records are correct from the insurers point of view as the police rely on insurance industry data for their number plate recognition devices that check a car is insured. Being pulled over late one night and trying to explain it could be inconvenient to say the least.

Admiral also insure imports...my car is on a multi car policy and was originally registered in Germany. Its probably a case of a private reg no being applied and not being updated when the car was sold and the original plate re instated.

Thanks for the replies.

Think my best option is to talk to a different 'highly trained customer service' person who might know that their company actually insures imports - if in the fact it is, and of course this one might be able to establish that Porsche actually produce a Boxter S model.

Cheers

Nope, never produced a Boxter S.
Now if you ask them to insure a Boxster S then they might be able to help? [;)][:D]
