Hi,
Can any of you LHD owners recommend any specialists who import vehicles from Germany?I don`t want to start a potentially libellous stream here, so positive comments only please (you can email anything scurrilous direct if you must).
second question:
If a vehicle is recently imported , HPI is not a lot of use .Has anyone the web address of the german equivalent?
Thanx in anticipation.

DIY[8D] Find car (mobile.de) contact seller - get inspection at OPC - sort out documents for export - sort out insurance - drive back and get UK MOT (?may need to change a few things on LHD 964 e.g. headlamp glass DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST). If interested perhaps H&S' Thomas in Germany might help.

Thanks Harry,I was thinking more in terms of buying a recently imported car via a UK dealer who specialises in these things, but running the car through the german HPI to weed out any crashed/repaired examples.I also know of someone who imported a car and had a bill for VAT (german)as the previous german owner had claimed the VAT back through his business.I don`t know whether he ended up paying it , but he certainly got the demand.

I would think that imports by company's of 964's are now becoming rarer..(?)

as profit margins are very limited as the uk market has a fair supply of lhd cars already..

but with euro rates poor and added (although minor) rhd type approval costs, it is prob' not on many importers list of cars to bring in..

but a search for a 964 already registered and owned in the uk for a few years in the usual used car car sources (from Jamie's post above) is prob' your most realistic bet...

just my £1's worth..

regards

Thanks Jamie,I`ve come across these sites on my travels, but not met anyone who`s used them.

Thanks Melv and Sundeep,I dare say you`re right about the economics of importing, but Oakhills for example seem to have a steady source of what appear to be sound cars in Germany.I think I visited GT Classics in Andover about 12 years ago ,so they`re still trading...not a bad sign usually
Thanx again guys.

I've bought 2 964's from Dan at Oakhills. Both cars in great & honest condition. They are now based next door to Design911.

Just my 0.02cents!

Thanks Sundeep,Andy and Mel,I`ll check out these sources.I`m a regular visitor to Oakhills` website as they seem to have a source of what appear to be straight cars and to find a happy client is confirmation.
What about german HPI? anyone know anything?
cheers guys

Postscript 2 hours later....I`ve checked out the site, and they don`t hold the vehicle registration records,as they`re a standards institution. But they DO do "oldtimer" inspections at the test centres , so might be a good place to get an inspection done if buying a vehicle in Germany.I understand that people sell their cars if they can afford to in Germany rather than have to pass the TUV (MOT) as it`s very stringent ,so they probably do more than kick the tyres and beep the horn.
