'imported' boxter?

Guest

Just purchased a '99 boxter 2.5 for my better-half, its currently being HPI'd RAC'd before we finally commit. Looks like a good-un though..

One potential pitfall, It was imported when new rather than purchased from a UK dealer (it seems to be a UK spec car, RHD, etc). It has a letter with it from Porsche UK officially adopting it and honouring the porsche guarantee so I am not desparately concerned. I would have thought its just a regular boxter purchased from a dealer in europe rather than in the uk....but what do I know...?

But..belt & braces and all that...

Are there any potential pitfalls with this situation? ie insurance, resale value, etc?

I would like to start our Porshe experience on a +ve..Thanks...

Lofty I would imagine any issues would be with a 5 year old car rather than where it originally came from etc.

We have had 3 personal imported cars on our fleet each one showing a massive saving on UK list, CLK, sold at 2 years of age to Tom Hartley, and he wasn't concerned at all about it being an import just as long as it was total UK spec of course, and we got exactly the same money as if the car had been UK supplied. An SLK still on our fleet and a BMW 3 Series also still on fleet. We have never had an issue with these imported cars and had the import price difference remained as great we would have continued with this policy.

So in our experience I would be more concerned with the overall condition of your proposed purchase.

Boxsters are great cars and good luck with your [;)]

I bought my car directly from the Amsterdam OPC in the days when the Euro was worth a hell of a lot less. Some may consider it a personal import, the more EU-friendly may just think that the pre-delivery inspection and preparation was carried out by an OPC that wasn't in the UK.

Any dealer will be able to confirm whether the spec is full UK (C16) however what's the difference between a Finnish built RHD car bought in Birmingham and a Stuttgart built RHD car bought in Zurich.......Who cares ?

thanks guys... the vendor has now obtained a 'fax' from Porsche UK confirming the car is a full UK spec Boxter.

If only all vendors were that helpful...[:D]
