Imported my 928 in from dubai - MOT question

dictys

New member
I have just imported my 928 in from dubai, I've got it home and it is running on dubai export plates however I now need to register it with the DVLA.

It was orginally a LHD Japanese car and therefore is ROW spec with cats but with RHD lights etc.

The cats have been removed by PO.

To get it a MOT so I can registered it, will I have to find some cats to put back on? the year is 1990 S4.

Thanks for any help

It just has to be able to pass the emissions testing for the year of manufacture.

I think they (MOT) made the emissions criteria stricter (for post 1993 models) and so to be able to pass the inclusion of a CAT became necessary (i.e. if it was removed the car would fail the MOT on emissions)

So to answer your question.

No I do not think CATs are necessary but it will need to pass the emissions test.

Thanks guys, I'll put it through the MOT and still if it fails on anything then I can work on any issue they have found.

Hi there, no cats are required on a 1990 car. It will need to pass a normal non cat emissions test tho, that's a co limit of 3.5% and a hydrocarbons limit of 1200 ppm.

Hope this helps!

Good luck with the car, Jonny.

Well the car failed on emissions.

The co reading was 0.82% and it says it needs to be under 0.2% so I have been that Cats will need to be fitted.

Otherwise passed all the other emissions stuff and everthing else.

After a letter from Porsche to establish the registration date in Japan, the car was retested on 1990 specs and passed with flying colours.

Just the registration to sort now.

Hi,
Strange that it's LHD, Japan drive on the left like us and their cars are RHD !
Does it have the additional wheel arch extensions all round ? These were fitted to Japanese spec cars

Regards,
Paul L

In the 1990's it was a status symbol to have a LHD car in Japan, there were quite a few LHD cars specfically made for Japan.

It does not have the additional wheel arches, it is a non sunroof car and has a mixture of 90 and 91 wiring.

She is now UK registered, just waiting for a tax disk and she will be ready to head out and meet the public.

Enjoy the car - at least our weather will wash away any sand left in the crevices!!! [:D][:D][:D]

Do you have any photos?

Here are some pictures before I shipped her back and whilst under restoration
