Well the day went ahead and thank you to Charles, Randall and Willis, Alistair and young passenger (I am so sorry, names gone!), Greg and Deb.
A great start involved Steph and me trying to diagnose a rattle from the driver's front of our Boxster. Unbelievably it had chosen this very morning to misbehave. It was a broken front spring! Can you imagine?
Frustration wasn't quite the right term as I watched Steph drive our car home
. Thankfully Charles was able to take me shotgun in his Porsche and we headed out to meet Greg and Deb at Hexham after a short delay.
Coffee and a comfort stop (BP garage not Shell - thanks Greg) saw us head out to Alston and Hartside on brilliant roads that needed a great deal of respect this morning. An enormous thank you to Charles for stepping up and helping me out - lovely smooth, controlled and safe drive in very testing conditions - Gold standard ROSPA wholely evidenced!
The cafe has totally been removed - amazingly it was like it had never ever been there - it was quite eerie and in my mind justification for the visit. At this point and whilst taking photos of the cars, we decided it might be quite apt to call this run out - 'the dirty weekend' (Willis's idea or at least comment? May be due to their Porsche being white - well - when we started it was white?).
It was freeeezing on top but a welcome distraction came via a fellow member making an impressive entrance in their 718 GTS. Brilliant.
Another exemplar drive from Charles as we kept an eye on the channelled ice at the edge of parts of the road and I think we were all ready for lunch in the Bakery at Melmerby. For such a chilly day it was surprisingly busy and it took time to get through lunch - though all seemed to enjoy the chance to chat.
Randall, Willis, Alistair and co driver had to head back due to time constraints, Charles myself, Greg and Deb took a slightly more circuitous route home.
Lots of cleaning to be done on return I suspect and I hope (despite my disastrous start) an enjoyable impromptu run for all those who braved the conditions.
We'll do it again - and this time in the driving seat. Hey ho, such is life!
Thanks to everyone that came out - driving in company totally enhances the experience
