Improved Braking

I've not been enjoying the Cayman as much lately and I finally managed to figure out why; the brakes were rubbish. The braking had gradually been getting worse and I had just been adapting my driving to suit.. as in driving slower. The brakes were poor when cold and only just acceptable when warmed up but faded when asked to perform.
I was thinking servo fault, brake lines expanding, everything except the pads. I had put brand new Pagid pads on about 4K? miles ago and had thought they would have been fine and never really suspected them.
Common sense then came back to me and I thought I would start again with pads and discs and take it from there.
After much reading on forums I decided to try EBC Yellowstuff pads as the blurb stated the new compound worked well from cold and didn't fade when hot.... everything I wanted!
I shopped around and bought these for £181.

When you see them next to the partly worn Pagids they do look the part...

I had previously used Pagid "discs" and found them to be of good quality, so I bought some more, stuck them all back on and was ready to go.
The Cayman has the easiest brakes i have ever worked on. They really are quite well designed!!
I should also say that over the winter I had changed all of my brake fluid to dot5 and it made no difference to my braking... Hopefully it will now aid the new pads.

So.... The test drive..... Wow... I'm in love with the car again.
I pulled out of the drive, 5mph, pressed the brake and the wheels locked. The grip was amazing from the off and they were not even bedded in yet. I've done about 30 miles now and the brakes are everything I hoped they would be. I did three 60-0 in a row and there was no sign of fade whatsoever.
It now feels like a Sports Car again and I am looking forward to some spirited driving with the knowledge that it will stop when asked...

Good to hear you've found a combination that works. I've stayed on OEM pads and aside from all the dust they work well for me although longevity does depend on how worn the disks are. The drilled holes seem to encourage the formation of concentric rings which don't help pad life and of course cleaning out the dust from the holes is always a joy..

I tried standard Pagid road pads once too and found them to be rubbish. If you want Porsche original type of performance you need to get Textar pads. The only Pagid road pads worth trying are the Pagid Sport pads which cost over £100 per axle and then any of the RS series but they start to get really expensive then (nearly £200 per axle for RS29 yellows).

To be honest, I never even considered OEM pads. I read that the Yellowstuff pads exceeded the OEM pads in performance so I just went for them.

When I removed the pagids they looked quite contaminated. That might have been the problem.

I certainly hope you've not used DOT5 brake fluid as its silicone based and not compatible with 5.1 (which Porsche's own fluid is) and DOT4 (which race fluids are).
