improvement from new clutch

Just had a new clutch, old one had at least 50K on and probably 70K... can't believe the difference it makes. I had started thinking that I'd gotten used to the lightness on the pedal compared to my old 3.2 as it seemed as heavy... now it's more like the missus's Nissan Micra. And it bites a heck of a lot quicker, despite not getting the low-mass flywheel I've still stalled it a few times when cold.

Whilst they were at it, the alternator, pulleys, leads, plugs got replaced plus the rear bumper mounts had rotted away. hopefully that's the last big bill for this year, next year I'll get the aircon sorted, whole lot probably needs replacing.

They are indeed Roddy [:)]

The missus is always going on about how much it costs to run. What she can't (or doesn't want to) see is that I do 20K miles a year, for about £4K in running bills. Her Nissan Micra, whilst costing about £300 a year in bills, which has about 20K miles on, has cost £7K her in depreciation

No doubt mine has depreciated a bit, it's still got 'average miles' for it's age, motorway and carparks have taken a bit of a toll on the paintwork. Even if it's lost 3K, we're about even. But I had much more fun/mile for the last 20K miles than she did...

Call it superstitioun, call it karma, call it utter rubbish if you like. But every vehicle/bike that I've owned, whenever I've really got it sorted to A1 standard, some t**t has smashed into it. So I prefer to always have a job or two outstanding, no-one seems to crash into it when the car isn't perfect.

I agree. I really don't think mine costs any more per year to run than a standard repmobile, once you factor in depreciation. If you add in the fun factor, it becomes a no-brainer, really.

993s rule.

Indeed. My old 3.2, bought for £20K, put on 130K miles myself and sold it 6 years later for £10K. Spent about £10K on running bills, so it cost me about £20K. If I'd bought a new top-end Mondeo for the same it would have been scrap value only at that age/mileage. So again, ultimately it would have cost the same. Which would I have rther been hooleying across North Wales in every weekend? Not the Mundane that's for sure

Plus, a Mondy for 6 years and 130k would not exactly be bill-free itself.

(And, depending on the type of client you have, a 6 year old Ford does not cut it, whereas a Porker can be as old as you like - in fact the older the better probably!)

Wish I'd bought one much sooner.
