Just a quick post if anyones interested, on my recent engine rebuild, the IMS bearing (Dual Row) was replaced as you do, the old one which has done 117000 miles was in perfect health, no seal degradation, no play, no roughness. Pic attached.

Always good to hear of positive experiences - and I suspect yours is more common than perceived wisdom would suggest!
What did you replace your bearing with?

Hi ,I got my ims bearing replaced last week and on my 2003 c2 tiptronic and it was in perfect condition after 95 k , so what people say about the 996 is way off the mark, in my personal opinion I think it will go on for at least another 95 k providing the oil is changing regularly and it's looked after in general ????

More good news??

Thanks for your info Rob,
I have had numerous calls and emails saying the same, all very positive but if for any reason the box has to come off it’s always worth replacing IMHO.
Enjoy
Kind regards
Andy
