ims failure

been looking at 2007 boxster 3.4. and looking to buy my first boxster Iam concerned about the ims failure, as read in the forum,
did the ims get resolved by porsche by a certain date?

As far as I'm aware, all 986 / 987's have IMS bearings. The IMS bearing in the 987 was revised and is said to be better than those in the 986 (especially the earlier ones). The downside is that the IMS bearings in the 987's cannot be changed using the retro-fit method. It requires a complete strip down of the engine in order to replace it.

Thought that Gen2 versions with the dfi engine had this taken out - depends if your buget stretches that far

Final changes to the IMS were in the MY07 Cayman S which then passed the same engine design to the production of the 3.4 Boxster S when the engine was upgraded from 3.2 so they should also have the last iteration of the IMS, Gen 2 3.4's went to the latest design with no IMS at all.[;)] Gen 2 also got some revisions to the brakes and suspension plus DFI for lower emissions ( lower road tax band ) and better fuel economy with a few more BHP.
