IMS Guardian Installed

Further to the previous thread by Thirteeneast, I am pleased to say that I have had the IMS Guardian installed as well.

Had it done at Wrightune under the watchful eye of Mr Richard Hamilton himself.

The install went fine with the only snag being about the wiring which got sorted out. Will post some pictures as soon as I can.

For the sake of a few hundred pounds I now (hopefully) have a device that should give me warning in advance of the failure of the IMS and potentially save me thousands of pounds.

The great thing about the kit is that it can be easily removed without any signs. Have a look at this link for the install,

Really pleased with the product and service.

I just like pressing the buzzer!.

[:D] LOL, I must admit that I have been pressing it a few times. Just to do a circuit test though[8|]....

Are we they only two to have it done in the UK....................................................?

Great! How much was it, all in?

Unit costs £300 + VAT.

Fitting is £100. As they drain the oil, you can either bring your own or use theirs. I changed my oil from Mobil 1 to Gulf Competition and K&N Filter.

Total 911 did a shoot on the IMS Guardian so in exchange for using my car, Tony & Richard kindly fitted the kit for free. I paid for the oil and unit.

As I am not mechanically minded like Thirteeneast, I was more than happy to let Tony at Wrightune do the honors.

Good idea for those folks who want to get one and are due a service soon as you don't have to pay twice for the oil. Thx

And to think I wanted to change my CDR22.

I reckon I may have been the first in Europe?.
Yes I reckon we are.

How clean was your sump plate? any signs of debris?.

Regards

Richard.

More Guardian pics.

Wish my engine looked as clean as this.

I love those Fabspeed cats.
What's that silicone feeding on the rears? anyone?.

Richard,

That was one of the nail biting moments for me...taking the sump plate off. Found a small piece of plastic/silcone thats it. They also stretched out the oil filter to see if there was any metal caught up in the flaps. Pleased to say there was none. Phew!!!!

In terms of numbers, You must have been the first in Europe if not UK. Roy is getting his done as I type this. Will be handy to find out his experiences.

If there is any feedback from me, it would be around the sump plug itself. I think it could do with a slightly longer cable so that the electrical connector can be tucked away and not left on the sump plate.

Also I think my wiring followed a slightly different path, maybe coz its a cab..... But hey, I dont really care....

That's good news about your sump, I to was very nervous at what I would find.

I know that in development wireless avenues were explored but to keep prices down it was decided to be hard wired.
Maybe in the future.
I hope to be able to buy additional MCD's to be able to add one to my diff and gearbox as this has been mentioned.

Good luck for today Roy!.

Now thats a great idea.

Just had a missed call from Roy, I am sure he will be fine, especially since my car was used as a tester and all the kinks have been sorted out.

I reckon two hours max!!!

This brings back memories... my old Morris 1100 (which I learned to drive in many moons ago), had a magnetic sump plug to catch all the fragments of swarf from the gearbox - as the engine and gearbox used the same oil/sump IIRC - before it did any internal damage...

Now 30 years later, we're using similar technology to protect our 996's :)

Me too!![:D] Sound engineering!

OK Gents, I think I may be number 3 in Europe!! As usual, Richard and Tony were true gents and handled my pride and joy as if it were their own!! Many Thanks Richard!

Went in at 10 am. Richard and Tony had a think about the best way to do my IMSG. In the end they decided to add a length of wire to the magnetic sump so the connection could sit higher up next to the oil filter. A quick snip, a soldering iron and some shrink wrap and it was larger by 9 inches [:D]!!

I too was a little nervous about what I would find in the sump plate but it was absolutely immaculate, not a thing, which was great news!!

Anyway needless to say Tony did a magnificent job and ran the cable behind the driver seat - Tiku, similar to yours.... as that was the best position to cable tie the cable and attach securely.

I love pressing the button, must have done it at least 6 times on the way home! Went over a few speed bumps to test if the 12mm sump depth made any difference and none that I can tell or hear for the moment!

I must say that the best thing about this is the fact the Tony does not cut any corners and does everything as it should be done, taking his time and correctly torquing everything that needs to be. Whilst I was there, I also had a low temp thermostat fitted which works quite well, the needle is just a fraction less than the 80 line.

Highly recommend the IMSG if you're thinking about it but would suggest to do when an oil change is being done. Contact Wrightune or speak to our resident Technical Guru Richard.

At £360 inc VAT + Fitting, I think its a sensible investment that will hopefully give you an advance warning if things start going wrong in the engine, everything inside the car looks standard like it came from the factory.

Thanks! Roy

Apart from you wouldn't know untill you took the sump plug out that the engine had been chewing on metal since sometime after the last time the plug had been out! [][][]
